Ali Sher Jakhrani: Honest police officer, an engineer, a topper, story-teller, a traveler

KARACHI: Sindh province of Pakistan has been blessed with the most competent people whose life has been changed only because of their utmost dedication with the education. One such example is of Ali Sher Jakhrani who is presently working as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) Sindh.

Ali Sher Jakhrani son of Mohammad Hayat Jakhrani, was born in a very poor family in a small village namely Saifal  Khan Jakhrani, union council Mohammadpur, taluka Garhi Khero, district Jacobabad on August 13, 1966.

He got his primary education from the Government Primary School Saifal Jakhrani and secondary education from the Government Secondary High School, Mohammadpur Odho in 1978. He was the topper in board examination in the whole district. Mr Ali Sher Jakhrani was kept out of school and assigned the job of shepherd on rotation basis along with his siblings.

While playing a trick with his nephew, Mr Ali Sher resumed his education secretly with a commitment with his nephew that he (Ali Sher Jakhrani) would share his half of the pocket money he gets if his nephew helps him in taking care of all the livestock and he attends regular classes in the college.

While seeing his extraordinary qualities, Ali Sher’s teachers – Habibullah brohi and Azizullah brohi- were very kind enough to support him in his education while his nephew used to take care of all the livestock outside the school for want of little amount. Ali Sher Jakhrani completed his intermediate from the Government Degree College Jacobabad and secured top position in the Board.

Being the topper of the board and a brilliant student, Ali Sher Jakhrani got admission in Karachi’s top engineering university – NED University of Engineering and Technology – in year 1984-85. He completed his Bachelors of Engineering (BE) in electrical engineering in the year 1990.

In year 1991-92, Mr Jakhrani appeared in the country’s competitive examination – Federal Public Service Commission -, Sindh Public Service Commission and three other commissioned jobs however he had joined country’s spy agency for quite some time and left the job. He had also qualified CSS, PCS and Audit and Accounts group in year 1992.

In 1992, Mr Jakhrai joined Sindh Government as Section Officer BS-17 and he had again appeared in the competitive examination for the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in year 1995 and qualified for it. He, then, formally joined Sindh Police as DSP.

In year 1999, Ali Sher Jakhrani was selected to serve in the United Nations (UN) Mission in East Timore and subsequently in the Kosovo. He returned to Pakistan and rejoined police and he was posted as DSP Hala, Sanghar and Tando Muhammad Khan respectively in year 2002.

In year 2003, Mr Jakhrani was promoted and posted as Superintendent of Police (SP) Investigation, district Sanghar. After a brief posting as SP, Mr Ali Sher was once again was selected for the UN Mission in Liberia and returned after serving there for one year.

On his return from Liberia, Mr Jakhrani was posted as Deputy Director, Anti-Corruption and Enquiries, district Larkana where he served for two years. Once again in year 2006, Jakhrani was selected for UN Mission in Liberia where he represented Pakistan till 2010 as an expert of operations, investigation, security etc.

In December 2010, Mr Ali Sher returned to Pakistan and was posted as Deputy Commandant, Sindh Reserve Police (SRP) and later he was posted as AIG Welfare where he had cleared all the backlog of files, launched Hepatitis screening of all the police constables, made CMH and NICVD hospitals on police panel where any policeman could easily get free treatment at the expenses of police department.

Mr Ali Sher Jakhrani was the only officer who was assigned another job of police’s legal side and he presented police point of view before the apex court. With his dedication and committee, Mr Jakhrani was awarded membership of the bar councils.

Being the honest officer, Mr Jakhrani was posted in Hajj Mission in 2014 where he had served millions of Hajis. In year 2016, he was posted in Quetta, Balochistan.

In October 2017, Mr Jakhrani was posted as Director Law and Establishment of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Islamabad where he served for two years. In year 2019, Jakhrani was posted as Deputy Inspector General (DIG), National Highways and Motorways Police where he worked on new mode and modalities, worked on nation building, introduced icon of excellence etc.

In February 2021, Mr Ali Sher Jakhrani was posted as DIG, NHMP, Sindh where he is still working on several projects to ensure respect of motorways police, ensure accident-free highways etc.  Besides, his brilliant service in the police, Mr Ali Sher Jakhrani travelled more than 36 countries of the world that included his official trips, scholarships, personal trips. He explored the world as traveler and tourists and wrote articles on beauty of nature which he had seen during his trips. He also contributed to the education of his village which has resulted 100 percent literacy in his native town.
