Sindh Food Authority, KMC to set up Centralized Blood Testing Labs

KARACHI: The Sindh Food Authority (SFA) and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) are likely to establish the centralized blood testing laboratories for medical tests of around one million food handlers in the province.

This was decided in a meeting between Director General Sindh Food Authority (SFA) with Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab recently.

In this regard, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed between the SFA and KMC for handing over the building for starting the work on the establishment of food authority’s laboratory.

The laboratory will be established within the premises of the corporatio’s non-functional centralized blood bank located at Peoples Chowrangi near Mazar-e-Quaid.

According to DG SFA Agha Fakhar Hussain, there are approximately one million food handlers working in the port city only in different food businesses and it is mandatory for them to have blood tested annually for different diseases and the proposed lab would provide a subsidized fees structured blood testing facility.

He expressed his hope that data would also be utilized in the requirements of federal government which is also working on the program of centralized data collected from all the provinces regarding food handlers. This will be beneficial for the food handlers to get job in entire country.

Sindh Food Authority recovers thousands packets of fake juices

HYDERABAD: While continuing its efforts to ensure healthy food to masses, the Sindh Food Authority has recovered thousands of packets of fake juices brand from Hyderabad.

As per the details, a team of Sindh Food Authority Hyderabad acting on the direction of Director General Sindh Food Authority Agha Fakhr Hussain, have recovered thousands of packets of harmful juice from a house in Sammanabad Qasimabad.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Director Hyderabad Fida Hussain Khoso.

The team also arrested three qccused, Yasin Sheikh, owner of the fake juice factory, two employees Islahuddin and Arbab. The team of Sindh Food Authority also seized the raw materials for making harmful juices.

It should be noted that this unhealthy juice was being provided at shops and bakeries. This action was taken after receiving complaints.

Speaking on this occasion, Deputy Director Hyderabad Fida Hussain Khoso said that Director General Sindh Food Authority Agha Fakhr Hussain had given clear instructions to take action against those selling adulterated products at all levels. He warned the sellers of adulterated food items to keep themselves away from their activities otherwise strict action would be taken against them under  Sindh Food Authority Act.

Sindh Food Authority plans massive crackdown against adulterated food items

KARACHI: The Sindh Food Authority is all set to initiate massive crackdown against selling of tea mixed with chemical milk at chai hotels.

While taking note of the various complaints, the food authority officials launched large-scale inspection of milk and tea shops.

In the first phase, milk and tea leaf samples were collected from more than hundred shops across the city. These inspections have been conducted under the supervision of Director General Sindh Food Authority Agha Fakhar Hussain.

The samples obtained from the shops have been sent to the laboratory of Karachi University. These samples will be biologically tested to find out the facts.

Speaking on the occasion, Director General Sindh Food Authority Agha Fakhar Hussain said that Ramadan is approaching and we will ensure the sale of pure milk and tea free from adulteration in Ramadan. Sale of adulterated food items will not be allowed.

Strict action will be taken against those who sell adulterated food items as per law.

Sindh Food Authority keeps vigil on sale/use of substandard tea: DG Agha Fakhar

KARACHI: The Sindh Food Authority has initiated a robust campaign against the sale of substandard and adulterated tea by keeping an eye on both sellers and wholesalers.

In this regard, the officials of the authority led by Director General Agha Fakhar Hussain visited markets of tea sellers/whole-sellers. Stern action has been initiated against the whole-seller Julia Boserup.

While during the visit, shops were subjected to tests, and inspections were carried out. And, samples of all the tea varieties were also collected for further assessments from all the major wholesalers.

Speaking on the occasion, DG SFA Agha Fakhar Hussain said that the aim of such visits is to check quality of the food items so that consumers may get healthy food items.

He warned all those sellers and whole-sellers who are involved in selling sub-standard food items to avoid such practices otherwise a strict action would be taken against them according to SFA Act.
